Crazy to think that I’m already four weeks into my month-long project…
I’m happy to announce that the plugin itself is finally finished! And I’m even happier to say that I did not cut back on my plans from the first week. It came close, but I was able to add all of the originally planned features before the month was over.
“Finished” does not mean that I’m done with this project for good; it just means that this month-long challenge is complete. I definitely plan on continuing the development of Governance as long as there are more features to add. And trust me, there are plenty of things I can do to make it even better. In fact, I already have a list of features that I plan on adding in the future.
This month seemed to go by insanely fast since I was constantly busy with something. I easily spent 50+ hours this month on the project alone. And that only accounts for the hours that I was recorded! With each week that passed, I spent more time coding than I did the previous week; and I loved every second of it. Here’s a fun graph that I made while I was rendering this week’s time-lapse video:
I learned A LOT throughout the course of this project. I definitely expanded my technical skills in concepts like Java, Git, SQL, audio/video editing, etc but I also learned some non-technical things! I think this project taught me to be more persistent. There were very few days that I did not spend time working on this thing. I knew that if I did not get up and work on this every single day, I would not reach my deadline. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what I’ve learned this month. On the official project page, I’ve included an in-depth overview of things I’ve learned/improved on.
